Seniors Section Membership and Committee

Seniors Membership

If you are aged 55 or over, and are male, you are eligible to join the Seniors’ Section within the Club.

The benefits are –

  •  Being able to compete in any of the monthly competitions – usually Stableford, and without a pre-booked tee. This allows you to maintain a formal "competitive” handicap.
  • To play in several other individual or pairs competitions over the year.
  • To join teams of players to compete against local clubs. There is no green fee to pay, and you get to meet many interesting people on their course, and “at home”, with dinner afterwards.
  •  To enter Open events at other clubs, where our Section provide the details of such arrangements.
  • To meet other Sherborne members at the events above and also at occasional social gatherings.
  • For your “Senior Interests” to be promoted, and heard, within the general Club.

There is a (small) annual fee of £5.00. This sum is used to –

  • Meet administration costs of managing the above arrangements. Otherwise the time and expenses would have to be met by the Club, with a possible increase in the general subscription
  • To subsidise the expense of the Christmas drinks and food served after the Seniors AGM.
  • Additionally through our activities we are able to support local charities. In 2019 we donated £1,600 to worthwhile beneficiaries.
  • Overall surplus funds then always find their way back to the Club usually in the form of specific projects such as storage shed extensions, half-way house installation, seating, and more.

We welcome all members be they new to the Club, or “have grown of age”

Please be reminded that the subscription year is by calendar year and for 2020 stays at £5 per
member. Some 144 of you have renewed up to 6 March 2020 which is great but we are still down on
our average numbers of 180. To be eligible for senior competitions and club friendly matches you
need to be a member. From mid-February we update our Seniors database and so you
may miss out on senior’s updates if you do not join/re-join soon. Paid to-date members are as per the
list at the top of this page and on the Seniors board in the changing room.

If you are already a member of the Seniors Section and wish to renew please do so ASAP.

If there are no changes to your details, write your full name and purpose of payment (2020 Seniors
Subs) on a payment envelope, include payment and post in the Seniors box near the notice board.

For any changes to your contact details or for new members please also complete and enclose
a subscription slip which will be left by the side of the Seniors box.

Cheques make payable to “Sherborne Seniors” please
