Women's Section

Welcome to the Ladies' Section of Sherborne Golf Club. As Lady Captain, I am delighted to introduce you to the Ladies’ section. We are a friendly and welcoming group and are keen to attract women golfers of all standards and ages to join our established and supportive section.

We hold our monthly Stableford and Medal competitions on Thursday mornings, interspersed with various fun competitions, which are open to members (with a handicap) of all levels. For a number of competitions, alternative weekend dates are available for members who are unable to play on a Thursday.

We also have a casual group on Mondays which welcomes members of any level to come and play in a non-competitive, friendly and social context.

All new members are welcomed by myself and allocated a Buddy to assist them in their first season. The Ladies’ section is very active, both on a social and competitive front. We run Spring and Autumn competitions, Summer and Winter knock out competitions and enter National and County competitions too. We have Friendly home and away matches which enable us to meet ladies from other Clubs and play their courses. There are also Mixed Competitions organised throughout the year.

Socially, there is Lady Captain’s Day and Captain’s away day and many ladies get together on a Thursday after playing. We run an Open each year and also a Golf and Coffee morning. Inter-club (for Silver players) and Beales/Woods (for Bronze players) matches are played each season against other clubs in Dorset.

So – plenty of golf!

We have recently signed up to The Women in Golf Charter which aims to increase the number of girls and women coming into golf and generally improve the profile of women in golf. This year we plan on running some initiatives and coaching for ladies new to golf, refreshers for those returning to golf and our Academy course is now fully functional.
