As the Ladies’ Captain, I am delighted to introduce you to our section. We are a friendly and welcoming group and are keen to attract women golfers of all standards and ages to join our established and supportive section. If you are thinking of joining the club then my advice would be “Don’t hesitate – do it!”
All new members are welcomed by myself and allocated one of our ladies who acts as a Buddy to ‘show them the ropes’ and become fully integrated into the section.
We hold our monthly Stableford and Medal competitions on Thursday mornings, interspersed with various fun competitions, which are open to members with a handicap. For a number of competitions, alternative weekend dates are available for members who are unable to play on a Thursday.
We also have a casual group on Mondays which welcomes members of any level to come and play in a non-competitive, friendly and social context.
The Ladies’ section is very active, both on a social and competitive front. Within the club we hold a Championship day, Spring and Autumn closed competitions and Summer and Winter knock-outs. We enter players into national competitions, such as the Ping 4BBB. Inter-club (for Silver players) and Woods (for Bronze players) matches are played each season against other clubs in Dorset. We have home and away friendly matches which enable us to meet golfers from other Clubs and play their courses. There are also mixed competitions and matches organised throughout the year, which are very well supported. The club runs a Woman’s Alliance Open each year and also a Golf and Coffee morning.
Socially, there is the annual Ladies’ Captain’s Day and the Captain’s awayday to look forward to and many ladies get together on a Thursday after playing.
We support The Women in Golf initiative which aims to increase the number of girls and women coming into golf and generally improve the profile of women in golf. We have a very supportive and proactive golf Professional running initiatives and coaching for women new to golf, refreshers for those returning to golf and our Academy course.
So – plenty of golf and something for everyone no matter what their golfing ability. Do come and join us!
