We take pride in offering golf in many formats to suit all members, of all ages, whether you have a high or low handicap and whether you prefer social or competitive golf. What is important to us is that you are welcomed into any group, form friendships with like-minded members and have the opportunity to participate in any form of golf that you choose.
At the heart of this approach is the Roll Up system. Sherborne Roll Ups are available to all members, occur on everyday of the week, usually in the mornings and although there are no rules about who can join, over time there has developed many different groups with slightly different ranges of abilities and ages so that you can guarantee to find a group of members you enjoy playing with. Of course if you prefer to play with your own group, there are also plenty of free tee times to choose from.
For the more competitive minded, The Men’s Section organises a range of eagerly contested individual and pairs club competitions, knock out competitions, fun competitions, as well as interclub and county matches that you may be selected for. The Captain also organises a number of interclub matches throughout the year where teams are chosen by enthusiasm and not necessarily by handicap. This provides an excellent way to enjoy team golf on different courses, with a different group of members.
During the winter months, the Men’s Winter 4 Ball is a popular club competition run on alternate Sunday mornings from October. Forty pairs are placed into both a division and a team. This allows that pair to compete not only against players of a similar handicap who they may not normally play against but also contribute to a team score running across all the divisions. The division and team winners are announced on the final day in February after a lunch for all 40 pairs.
Men's over 55 golf is organised by a Men's Seniors' subcommittee and thrives at Sherborne Golf Club. There is a longstanding set of inter-club matches, which are played Home, and Away for six months of the year, giving the opportunity to meet members from other clubs and play on their courses.
In addition, there are regular competitions for Men's Seniors’ Trophies; Open tournaments including a Men's over 55's Open; a over 55's Mixed Pairs’ Open and an over 55's Mixed Open Texas Scramble, plus a number of knock out tournaments either in an individual or pairs format. There are various Men's seniors’ Stableford Competitions spread throughout the year, which means that there are opportunities all year round to submit cards to keep your WHS Index current.
There is also an active commitment to raising money for projects at Sherborne Golf Club and for Charity.
